Preparing for the Pacific Era:
The High School of the Pacific educates youth drawn
from the Pacific island nations for leadership. The values underlying
HSP are the universality and interdependence of all peoples, as well as
the innate value of one's home culture. A firm respect and sense of
responsibility to preserve the gifts of the ocean, land and sky are
cultivated to prepare them to become the stewards of their natural
inheritance.
Origins:
Founded in September 2004, the High School of the Pacific
invites gifted students from 12 nations to pursue a challenging academic
course combined with multicultural character education. With inital
support from philanthropic peace visionaries Rev. and Mrs. Sun Myung
Moon, HSP has also benefitted from the expertise and contributions of
many who are not named as staff or faculty. Just a few are mentioned
below:
Anthony Aparo
Victor Jessop
Eun Sang Kim
Rev. Sam Masilamoney
Bart and Helen Mwarey
Sung Kyu Park
Education has long been understood to create the future leadership of
society. At a time in which the Pacific Rim nations are emerging with a
collective potential to achieve global prominence, the preparation of
leaders fully capable of navigating the complex issues facing their
nations is essential. HSP offers global-level education, while
preserving the cultural legacy they already possess.
The Beacon of Hope:
In September 2004 the World witnessed the beginning of
a high school institution designed to shape the future of the Pacific
Island Nations. The High School of the Pacific is presently developing a
cadre of ethical and capable future leaders who, as Islanders, will
effect positive social change. This school has been designed to provide
rigorous academics and ongoing character training for these students.
The peoples of Oceania can now place their earnest hope and confidence
in our students as the future leaders of the Pacific Island Nations.
Special Thanks:
This tremendous opportunity became reality by a
generous investment in the education of specially gifted island children
through the vision and initiative of Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon.
As an expression of thanks to them and to all who have endeavored so
long and hard to make this school a reality, the staff and students of
the High School of the Pacific offer their heartfelt gratitude. |
